When Taipei Medical University Hospital was established in 1976, it started its outpatient services in August 6 with 220 beds in the eastern part of Taipei City to provide medical care to the community. With the steady growth on the number of patients, a second medical building was built while the original building underwent a significant renovation. Being a modernized hospital with a total of 500 beds, TMUH played an important role in servicing the eastern part of the city. The quality of service provided was further acknowledged when it received the ISO-9002 certification in January, 1989 and was recognized as the Class I Teaching Hospital under the category of Regional Hospital by the Department of Health in the following year.
To further provide a premium medical environment and achieve the mission of medical knowledge advancement, the board of trustees has decided to build the third medical building. With 14 floors above ground level and 3 floors underground, the third building has the land area of 4300 square meters and floors area of 56200 square meters, this grand building has just completed on May 2007. Today, TMUH has a scale of 900 beds to provide a more complete, exceptional and safe healthcare to live up to the promises of placing people first and providing holistic services to the population.
